Chair
Became a trustee in: August 2024 and Chair in November 2024
After reading Economics at Reading University I qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Since then I have had a varied career, both in the private and public sector, ranging from finance directorships to working in Whitehall in HM Treasury, the Cabinet Office and Ministry of Defence. Latterly I was executive Chair, for fifteen years, of a healthcare software company I co-founded which developed and supplied performance management applications to hospitals both in the UK and in the USA. I subsequently became heavily involved in local politics, becoming political leader of the Channel Island of Alderney and sitting on the States (Parliaments) of both Guernsey and Alderney. I found it a very worthwhile and fascinating experience.
Through members of my immediate family I was well aware of the wonderful work that Citizens Advice does and also the amazing people that work and volunteer for it. I also became aware of the financial challenges facing Citizens Advice Exeter following the Council’s decision to discontinue funding from 2025/6. Given my background and experience I felt able to offer to help and I was very happy to put my name forward to volunteer as Chair following Dennis Mardon’s retirement. I am delighted that the Board had the confidence to appoint me. Since joining I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, dedication and skill shown by all of the staff and volunteers.
I am married with three children and three stepchildren and a collection of eight grandchildren!. Once a keen sailor I am now land based and enjoy gardening, the Devon countryside and travelling.
