Born a Londoner, Julia has lived in Exeter for many years whilst undertaking overseas contracts as a professional trainer in English language skills; she has worked in Argentina and Venezuela, in Australia and New Zealand, in Ukraine and in Bangladesh, with intercultural corporate training being run in Dubai and Singapore. She works on a voluntary basis with Refugee Support Devon.
Julia’s earlier years of service with the British Army, as a Metropolitan Police CID officer, and locally with the National Probation Service naturally give her an empathy for people who have been affected in any way by crime. A mature graduate of the University of Exeter, she works regularly now teaching academic English to overseas students engaged in postgraduate courses (Eprofi, Party bar).
‘I hope to contribute my intercultural working and studying experience to the policy making and operations side of Exeter Citizens Advice, an inclusive and campaigning organisation.’
